More Hiking and Biking

Nancy and I decided we'd better hike Monadnock before the weather got too cold. When I left Orford that morning there was still mist in the valley....
...but by the time I reached Marlborough the sun was out and shining!

At the base of the Marlborough Trail

Leafy, rocky forest.....
...more leafy, rocky forest, going uphill...
...and MORE leafy rocky forest, with bigger rocks going up steeper...
...and  we reach the first lookout point! Lovely autumn colors!

At the TOP!

We brought Lucy with us....she was a trooper!
It was windy, as you can tell by Lucy's ears!

I also did a lot more bike riding before the weather got too cold:
one late afternoon I took a ride at dusk; it was beautiful.

This is also along the River Road...in the daytime: love the fence...

...and the tree-lined drive...

...and the field and the stone wall...
....and the little driveway leading to a hidden house...

This road below joins the River Road and Rt 10--I love the big yellow barn.

More of the River Road: this stone structure in the middle of the Connecticut River....maybe an old bridge support or something...

...the Connecticut River...
...squiggly tree...
...squiggly fence...
...bit  of a marsh with duckies...

...another mysterious trail...
...fields and fences...
Emily! It's YOUR lane!
A big ol' turkey farm on Rt. 10

Cool funky house...
...Riding around the Lyme Common...lots of cool houses...
...the Lyme Country Story makes really good Reubens and Breakfast Egg Sandwiches...

...the church with the carriage house behind it...

This photo is on the Fairlee side of the River.....love the barn.

Back on the Orford side...heading back toward C&C's on the River Road...

This hill below is steeper than it looks...there's the covered bridge...
And look who is at home mowing the lawn! Hi, Sam!
