Hanging Out With Brenda, Thanksgiving, and a trip to Kittery

Sam and I drove to Wakefield and had a lovely reunion visit with
Cousins Brenda, Amanda, Johnny and grandson Chase

Sam is teaching Chase "The Rooster Song"

Meanwhile, back at the Rooster Farm....

I love this photo; not only of Brenda, John and Amanda, but it includes Uncle Elmer and Auntie, too!

Aunt Hildegarde, affectionately remember by me as just Auntie...my memories of her are all happy. I remember her kitchen always smelling of yummy things, combined with a faint odor of her oil paints from her art studio.  I remember her always being happy and cheerful, with an infectious laugh. I also remember the little door chime with the balls that hit the strings when you opened the door....and the Concord grapes in the backyard.

Uncle Elmer died when I was very young; I remember him having a deep voice and calling me a "great big beauty!" and giving me square lollypops from Brigham's. Auntie painted this:

...and this....
 ...and this....
 ...and this!

Later that week, I found Karen building her beautiful spruce Christmas wreaths.

Sam and Karen's house with all the wreaths lit up. Beautiful!

Thanksgiving was fun! Sarah and Nicole drove up from NC.

The cribbage game going on behind them was hilarious.

The next day I drove Sarah and Nicole with me up to Orford; on the way we stopped in Chester at the Vermont Country Store.  Beside it was a frozen pond with a restored mill.

....AND we went to Farmway.....

The first weekend in December I took a drive over to Kittery, Maine, to visit with Lisa.
It was a beautiful, cold, sunshiny day, and the coast was lovely.

Lisa's son Dylan works at the market where we ate.

He made us really delicious lobster rolls!!

Lisa and I drove over to Portsmouth and knocked around for awhile...

...then stopped in at her friend Els' home; a Sunday evening tradition for Lisa-

Her home was so cozy, right on the shore. I enjoyed the visit immensely; she was delightful; Lisa  mentioned, and I wholeheartedly agree, that the "hygge" (pronounced 'hue-gah'--a Danish term that is a feeling or mood that comes with taking genuine pleasure in making ordinary, every day moments more meaningful, beautiful or special--) was strong that evening!

I spent the night at Lisa and Richie's and drove back to Orford the next day....NOT so sunny, ha ha!
