Whanganui and the Road to New Plymouth

Leaving Wellington, we drove up the West Coast of the North Island, stopping in the town of Whanganui.  We peeked into another Vintage Clothing store:

...stopped for lunch---some AMAZING pizzas!...

..made a few calls....
...wanted to see inside this church, but it was closed.

...and checked out this cool elevator:

This is the coolest fence ever!

Walking into the tunnel leading to the elevator.

This was what was at the end of the tunnel:

This woman has been running this elevator for 30 something years. That's commitment!

At the top.

A great view of the town:

We opted to walk back down rather than take the elevator.

Continuing along the road, had to photograph this, as it was a common sign: the bridges were more often than not, one-direction-at-a-time, and the sign told you who had the right-of-way.

I can just picture Gollum leading Frodo and Sam through these woods....

An idyllic viewpoint. Wow.

Surreal to see Christmas decorations...
