Apparently possums are plentiful here, and their hair,
mixed with Merino wool, is incredibly soft and warm.
After the laundry was done we took a walk and went beach combing for rocks and shells:
Can you tell we are having FUN??
Later, as we were walking through the town, we saw this:
So we decided to do it!
There were about 4 different grains of sanding/grinding, each wheel with a finer grain than the last.
Then we hand-sanded....
...then we polished....
Then I drilled holes in the four that we chose...
Scott, the pleasant fellow second from the right, runs the shop and was our patient teacher.
This sweet woman put the strings on for us.
Time for dinner again....waiting for pizza, and enjoying the beach and the funky decor of the pizza place:
After dinner, we drove a few miles out of the town to view this amazing sight. (I had to get a stock photo...which shows what the area looked like after dark----really beautiful!)
You walk into this beautiful place and wait until dark.......
...to see this!
Another awesome day! Good night, Hokitika!
