Our Bavarian/Austrian Side Trip: Day 1

Loading up the car...

Thank you, Lyssa, for letting carsick Nana ride shotgun!

Love this spawn, too...

MORE countryside,quaint villages, church steeples.....

...and a parking lot stairway.

Our first destination in Saltzburg from the parking lot was to Mirabel Park, the site for some of The Sound of Music's "Do-Re-Me" sequences. On our walk to the park we saw some beautiful architecture, as well as a glimpse of the river that we would later sit by:

Saw many musicians biking around with instruments on their backs.

The "park within the park...."; We happened upon this playground and, of course, had to stop! Lyssa and Tucker made a few trips down this slide....pretty brave, I'd say!

Max enjoying the slide, and doing a little girl watching....

On to the main park area: Lyssa is filming the boys for what I suspect to be a reinvented video of Sound Of Music highlights....can't wait for the premiere!

The beautiful Hohensaltzburg Castle in the distance; Mirabel Palace to the left

I don't think I'd mind gardening here...

Love this cute couple strolling in their hats!

Speaking of hats, Wesley's is fabulous!

After we left the park, we crossed the river to walk to the Aldstadt.

I've been discovered!!! lol

The BeeGees live on!  Wish I could've seen it...

Another imposing view of the Hohensaltzburg Castle.

One of a few mime artists we saw in our travels.

The Petersfriedhof, one of the oldest cemeteries in Saltzburg; Haydn's younger brother Michael, and Mozart's older sister Maria are buried here. It was used as a template for a set built for The Sound of Music.

I bet there is a coffee table book out there called "Steeples of Europe"...

Another cute couple...

I would love to walk in one of those meadows up there...

A glimpse of an ancient city wall, and some beautiful buildings along the river.

Finally! Relaxing by the river in the late afternoon...as soon as the sun went down it got chilly.

Heading west to the suburb of Glannig, where we have rented two floors of a house for the night...

Yes, my editing qualities need work...I just kept clicking as we drove! So many interesting looking buildings!

I tried the catch the ads on the cylinder...

Looks like we're heading straight for the mountain!

This is the place!  The family leasing it lives on the top floor, and leases the main floor and the basement together.

The view from the stone walkway in front of the house the next morning.

Inside our lovely house for the night!

Isn't that stucco fireplace great?

It goes through to the bedroom on the other side.

This is where Lys, Max and Tasha slept.

Love the hardwood floor.

This is where Tuck and Wes slept.

This is where I slept.

This shower was great! It had a red light and a radio and tons of different water settings....all this for $180....I was impressed. Got it through www.airbnb.com
