2nd Annual January Inversion Escape Day One: Saturday, January 17, 2015

Cory, Sarah, Jack and I packed up Friday evening after I arrived home from work, and took off at around 7:30 am the next morning -- Cory driving and the rest of us sleeping....in hopes of shaking the grimy inverted air and cold weather out of our systems and having a weekend of fun together.
NOTE: So I still have a hard time editing out pictures...over the 3 days I took over 400, so know that I did dump some :)
Waking up to clear, blue sky! Heading south on I-15

After turning off I-15 heading east on 20 toward Panguitch, then turning south on 89, then east again on this beautiful highway toward Bryce Canyon
At the beginning of Red Canyon

 Love the backdrop scenery!

 Mopsy

Sunset Point, Bryce Canyon National Park

Starting to hike down into the valley, taking the combination of the
Queen's Garden & Navajo Loop Trails

There was a bit of mud; it made me feel like I was walking with weights on my feet!

 One of the pros of going to Bryce in the winter is the lack of crowds;
we met no more than 10 groups of people hiking.

This was a picture of some leaves I liked; hard for me to capture on camera....
Jack holding up the side of the formation....:)

We saw tons of jet trails...

 Queen Victoria!
You will see a lot of twisted wood photos...just too cool....
 ...and profile-shaped rocks.....

Dang...only caught the last of Dad and Sarah singing the whole song...
it was fun following them and listening to them sing it...

 two bridges...

 ascending...

 Thor's Hammer on the left...

 Lunch at Ruby's Inn

After lunch, we drove east of Bryce to a place called Chimney Rock, in Kodachrome State Park

Near Chimney Rock was a hike to find the Shakespeare Arch.....

....Sarah and Jack went one way; Cory and I went to the right...

I suppose because it looks like his head???
 Goofing off :)

Rather than turn back and walk the same way to the car, we continued around the large mesa...

Can't get enough of the scenery!

We felt like mountain goats on this trail...up and down and up and down...

 ...more mud on our shoes....

So we're hiking around the mesa and all of a sudden we hear Jack and Sarah....

We found a place to climb up to where Jack and Sarah had been....called Slick Rock.

This reminded me of a Picasso of Mount Rushmore...
When we arrived back at the car, Sarah and Jack were nowhere to be seen....Cory and I stood there wondering where they were when they jumped out from behind that green bush behind Jack....scared the crap outta me...Sarah couldn't stop laughing!

END OF DAY ONE.....TO BE CONTINUED...
